COLUMBIA SC (AP) - Bobby Allison of Hueytown, Ala. won the Gamecock 200 NASCAR Grand National East race Wednesday night in a Chevrolet after pole winner Bobby Isaac of Catawba, N.C. had to retire his Dodge 35 laps from the end of the 200-lap affair because oŁ engine failure.

Neil Castles of Charlotte, N.C., finished a lap behind in a Dodge to maintain a slim lead in season-long point standings over Elmo Langley, also of Charlotte, whose Ford placed third.

Isaac qualified at 85.313 miles per hour over the .510-mile course at the Columbia Speedway and built a sizeable lead before retiring. Allison's winning speed average 75.478 m.p.h. despite two caution flags
